If you’re bitten by a snake, here’s what you should do immediately

A snakebite can quickly trigger panic, but staying calm is essential. The body’s reaction can make things worse, especially if there is venom involved.

Sudden movement like running or shouting can speed up how venom travels through the body. Keeping the person as still as possible helps slow its spread.

It’s important to gently move the victim away from the snake to prevent further danger. Once safe, encourage slow, steady breathing to reduce stress.

The affected limb should be kept immobilized and positioned at or slightly below heart level. This can help limit how quickly the venom circulates.

Tight clothing, jewelry, or accessories should be removed early before swelling begins. Avoid harmful practices such as cutting the wound, sucking out venom, or applying a tourniquet.

Seeking medical attention immediately is the most important step. Even if symptoms appear minor, they can worsen rapidly without proper treatment.

While waiting for help, keep the person lying down, warm, and under observation. Staying calm and acting wisely can greatly improve the chances of recovery.
