JD Vance said in a recent interview that Ilhan Omar committed immigration fraud, linking her to alleged wrongdoing within parts of the Somali community in Minneapolis.
Speaking with podcaster Benny Johnson, Vance claimed Omar had violated U.S. immigration laws and suggested authorities were reviewing possible action.
The allegations come as the Trump administration emphasizes its focus on uncovering fraud. Donald Trump appointed Vance to oversee anti-fraud efforts, which he says have revealed billions in improper payments.
Separately, Randy Fine has considered pushing for Omar’s removal from Congress, citing past allegations and criticism of her positions.
Expelling a member of the House would require a two-thirds majority, making such an effort unlikely without significant bipartisan support.
Omar has also faced scrutiny over fraud linked to Minnesota’s “Feeding Our Future” program, which authorities say involved large-scale misuse of funds. She has defended her support for related legislation, saying it helped provide food for children.
Trump has also criticized Omar publicly, while political opponents, including John Nagel, argue that issues tied to fraud are concentrated in her district, further intensifying the political debate.
