A man was praised as a hero after he quickly stepped in front of President Donald Trump when gunfire broke out during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at the Washington Hilton.

In video footage shared widely online, the unidentified man—believed to be a Secret Service agent—reacted immediately as the first shots were heard in the hotel lobby.

Instead of taking cover, he rushed toward Trump and used his own body as protection, shielding the president while agents moved him toward a backstage exit.

Guests in formal evening wear were seen hiding under tables as Secret Service officers secured the ballroom. What had been a glamorous political event quickly turned into panic and confusion.

Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Allen from California. He reportedly approached a security checkpoint carrying a shotgun, a handgun, and several knives before being stopped by agents.

During the exchange, one Secret Service officer was shot at close range, but his ballistic vest prevented serious injury. Trump later praised the officer’s bravery and confirmed he was recovering well.

The incident reminded many people of the 1981 shooting of President Ronald Reagan at the same hotel. As investigators review the suspect’s manifesto and family warnings, many are calling the agent’s fast action an example of extraordinary courage.
